Dear customers,
About two weeks ago we sent a survey to all vServer customers and publicly via our social media channels regarding a migration to the First-Colo data center.
In this article we would like to present different evaluations and answer comments.
- An unbelievable 94% of all participants have explicitly spoken out in favor of moving to the First-Colo data center. (4% are against it, 2% didn't vote)
- The survey showed that the participants prefer SSD storage in RAID 1 to HDD storage in RAID 10 and that the chosen data center is relatively decisive.
- The average rating of the participants regarding the overall performance of our vServers is over 4 out of 5 stars!
Please note: There was an internal customer survey and a public survey. These are exclusively the results of the internal customer survey.
After these results we would like to respond to your comments:
I find the migration very appealing [...] also because I plan to host a TeamSpeak 3 server on my vServer.
The First-Colo DDoS Protection also protects UDP in contrast to the OVH. TeamSpeak 3 servers hosted on our vServers are effectively protected against DDoS attacks. Our vServers are even more capable of hosting a TeamSpeak 3 server.
Since most of my users live in Germany and Sweden this is quite good because of the better latency.
Users from Germany get a lower latency to the vServers because the First-Colo data center is not only geographically closer, but also much closer to DE-CIX. (The largest Internet hub in the world in Frankfurt)
If you were to move, I'd like the prices to stay the same or for customers who already have a server to keep the prices.
Prices will not change for you. You keep the price you currently pay.
If the IP addresses are changed we would not be for a move.
Unfortunately, you cannot avoid changing your IP address when you move to a new data center. However, we will send you a separate e-mail with helpful tips to make the change as easy as possible.
I like the location at OVH very much and would like to stay there.
The OVH location is (just like the First-Colo) one of the best locations for server hosting. However, moving to the First-Colo data center has advantages that are much more relevant to our customers than the advantages of OVH. Since the opinion of our customers is one of our highest priorities when choosing the best data center, we decided to move to the First-Colo data center.
